It is a very simple concept – Say what you do and then do what you say. If all companies providing products from Asia did this, life would be easy. Unfortunately, very few follow this simple concept. Many companies have had experience sourcing from Asia. For some, it is directly with factories and some through brokers or trading companies. Many times, issues arise regarding quality, delivery or price after purchase orders have been issued and tooling money delivered. SenSource has stepped in many times to help resource products in Asia when the initial supply has failed.
Case #1 A client sourced two components with a new factory in China through a broker. The broker promised excellent tooling pricing, quality, delivery and warehousing. The program started out successfully with initial sample approval and production. After a short period of time, quality issues related to aesthetics started to arise. Products required 100% inspection at the customer’s plant with a high resultant reject rate. The broker then informed the client that they did not anticipate these issues and were backing out of the business. This left the client to try and deal with a Chinese factory directly regarding quality, delivery and pricing.
SenSource was asked to intervene. We had our Shanghai based quality manager and business manager visit the factory to assess the situation. We found that the factory was extremely unhappy due to late payments and misleading information provided by the broker. They were willing to continue with the business but only under unacceptable circumstances. SenSource worked with the client and factory to successfully move the tooling to Taiwan. We got the tooling up and running and approved for the new factory within a very short period of time.
