SenSource has over the past decade developed a robust quality system called the Reliance^SM Quality Program. It is a blend of a traditional ISO 9000 quality management systems approach and a real world, results-oriented measure of a company’s effectiveness. It has been applied at more than 300 companies across the USA and Asia since 2000.

SenSource was introduced to a company in the automotive service industry. They were purchasing two complicated die castings from a current supplier in Canada. The castings were used on a mature product line that was seeing extreme pricing pressure from imports. In order to remain competitive, they decided to source the castings from a company in China. They launched tooling through a broker. The tools were built and samples submitted but the parts could never receive full approval due to the stringent requirements and the broker’s lack of engineering resources. The main issues were machining details and porosity. The program languished as continued efforts showed no results. The customer was in a serious bind and turned to SenSource.

SenSource quoted and was awarded the business. We redesigned the tooling to counter, in particular, the porosity issues. During the tool build, SenSource verified CMM measurement techniques with the client to assure consistency of measurements. SenSource also worked closely with the customer’s engineering and quality personnel to establish quality plans and procedures. Tooling was completed on time and samples were approved from our Taiwan factory well ahead of schedule. SenSource has been producing these parts successfully for over three years allowing the US company to remain competitive while retaining its superior product quality.
