A manufacturer of electric motor components for the automotive (GM) and power tool (DeWALT) industries was approached by SenSource about production of their motor housings. These are drawn over mandrel tubing parts that are precisely machined and plated. We were told that they had already started working with a supplier from China and were waiting for approval samples. The problem was that the supplier could not meet the statistical CpK values for perpendicularity and parallelism after several attempts. Since our pricing was competitive, we were asked to provide production approval samples as well. Our first set of samples met all statistical requirements and our PPAP was fully approved. We were then awarded the full production on these and subsequent housings.
