A prominent north American specialty lock manufacturer had a wholly-owned subsidiary in south China. This Chinese facility was built to provide low-end locksets and lockset components for their US manufacturing facility. Even though this was a subsidiary, the amount of control over the company was slight, with the shipped product typically of low-grade and of increasing cost levels.
There are many different ways that our services can be customized to fit our clients’ needs. This was a special request in a special situation. SenSource was asked to visit and assess the Chinese facility, and then to participate in the production and assembly of a set of locks designed for emergency heavy duty service vehicles without the cooperation of the Chinese factory. The complex lock products were new designs, including many processing disciplines: powder metallurgy, investment casting, machining, stamping, assembly and testing. The product was launched and run in production for two years before being turned over to their Chinese factory.
